Revamping of an Oil-Bath Filtration System, a Tailor-Made Project for Stockholm Exergi

Project Context and Challenges
As part of an air filtration modernization project, SAI France was commissioned by Stockholm Exergi, the main operator of the district heating network in the Swedish capital.
Stockholm Exergi plays a key role in Sweden’s energy transition: the company is heavily investing in carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies to achieve negative emissions and accelerate carbon neutrality.
Our mission was to deliver a robust and long-lasting solution to renovate an aging filtration system in an underground ventilation gallery, formerly dedicated to coal storage. To ensure the success of this project, our teams had to adapt to the unique constraints of a complex underground environment.
Oil-bath filtration system designed for a Constrained Underground Environment
To meet these challenges, SAI France designed and supplied a custom-made rotary oil-bath filtration system, fully adapted to the site’s specific requirements.
Key features of the solution include:
- Rotary oil-bath filters designed for an airflow capacity of 270,000 m³/h
- Continuous 24/7 operation, ensuring maximum availability
- Filtration, suitable for coal dust and engine exhaust particles in a marine environment
- Stainless steel 316L control cabinet with integrated instrumentation (pressure drop monitoring, alarms, remote signal reporting)
- Full engineering, manufacturing, and workshop testing prior to shipment and on-site integration

A Comprehensive service: from audit to installation works
The project scope covered the entire process, including:
- On-site audit and measurements
- Detailed design studies with modeling
- Manufacturing and assembly in workshop
- Performance and reliability testing
- Transport and delivery
Provision of complete technical documentation and assembly drawings to facilitate installation by the local contractor.
Benefits for Stockholm Exergi
The new filtration system was successfully integrated as a replacement for the original equipment. As a result, Stockholm Exergi now benefits from:
- Enhanced air quality thanks to reinforced filtration
- Improved reliability and continuous operation
- A long-lasting solution, specifically designed for the constraints of both underground and marine environments
They were particularly satisfied with the ease of integration and the robustness of the system delivered by SAI. We warmly thank Stockholm Exergi for their trust.
A Collaborative Project by Stockholm Exergi and SAI France
This project was a success thanks to the close cooperation between SAI France’s technical teams and the experts at Stockholm Exergi. It illustrates our ability to provide tailor-made, robust, and durable solutions in the context of revamping projects and the ongoing energy transition.
