Expansion joints: key components in exhaust systems to absorb dilation due to high temperature
Expansion joints are an essential component to absorb heat-induced dilatation from different metallic elements and to absorb mechanical vibration in order to provide an efficient sealing between all part of an exhaust system or any type of ducts mounted in a gas turbine, a thermal engine, a compressor or a pump.
The selection of the expansion joint depends on different operational parameters: maximum temperature, duct material and technology, dilation type to be absorbed… Two types of expansion joints are used: metallic joint or fabric joint with or without internal / external isolation.
